Sure, walk into an auditorium full of black people and start ANY line of conversation with the term, "You characters...". Or a room full of Muslims. Or a room full of senators and representatives. Why not just use the term "gays"? That's what they are.

There are different levels of equality. You are correct, gays in Western societies have it better than, say, gays in Muslim countries, but that doesn't mean all the kinks have been completely worked out, even in Western societies.

Which brings me to the final point you made. Yes, you're right, it would be much easier to just get a cake from another baker, but that's not the point. The point is, if a baker can discriminate against you based on who you sleep with, or how you identify yourself...why not a school? Or a real estate agent? Or a doctor? Or a lawyer? Or a government? Where does it end? And say it's a clash between the religious beliefs of a baker and the sexual orientation of the client? Then we go back to square one, why shouldn't a Christian principal discriminate against a gay student? Or why shouldn't a Muslim doctor refuse to treat a transgender patient?
