People have lived from these injuries before. It's all about how quickly they clamp down on that artery. He was looking like he was already starting to lose consciousness though so it might have been too late for him. There was that NHL goalie that had his jugular slit by a skate and was losing massive blood but the doctors were on him 10 seconds after it happened so they were able to clamp it. Malarchuk was the goalie's name.
