From what we can see here, there's actually a relatively small amount of blood. You can see they did manage to tie off his leg using a few different methods. He's definetely not getting that leg back, but he could've survived that injury. It doesn't look like he was wearing a helmet though, so who knows what the state of the rest of his body was.
