Re: Biker Dies by the Wheels of a Shipping Container Truck Turning Left
The truck had blinkers on and is a larger vehicle, as a "biker" (drive a lil 125cc) myself u know that a large lorry like that needs a large turning circle and u don't go up the inside of a lorry indicating. Ever.

Re: Biker Dies by the Wheels of a Shipping Container Truck Turning Left
Looks like the driver of the smaller truck was about to miss his turn from being in the wrong lane, so he just took the turn from the middle lane. Then it looks like the bigger truck was following the smaller truck and took the same turn, but the driver either didn't check his mirror first or just didn't see the rider when he did. Meanwhile, the rider looks like he's trying to go around the smaller truck when it takes the turn, but he realized he couldn't get in front of the big truck in time, so he starts to either slow down to let the big truck pass or to take the left turn when he sees the barricade (hard to tell which, but I'm inclined to guess the first) without realizing that the big truck is turning into his lane and coming at him. So he tries to take the left turn, but just wasn't able to react to everything that was happening quickly enough to get out of the way. Everyone involved should have been exercising more defensive common sense, but it's ultimately on the big truck for hitting the guy as a result of taking a turn that he shouldn't have been taking in the first place. At least according to the laws of the road over here (I don't know how Thailand works). |

Re: Biker Dies by the Wheels of a Shipping Container Truck Turning Left
And it looks like the roadblock was put there to create an improv entrance lane for the opposing traffic on the other side of the street that the trucks were turning onto, so that entering traffic from that street wouldn't have to stop because the left lane would be clear for them. It doesn't look like there are any warning signs leading up to it. I'm not familiar with Thai so I can't read the signs, but I didn't see anything that looked like a warning sign designed to catch the eye (bright red, orange, or like those flashing "lite brite" signs you see leading up to highway construction zones). So if it's an official roadblock, it's a pretty piss-poor one.
