Why are some people entertained by watching violence? 10 Answers Kayle Luo Kayle Luo Answered Dec 4, 2016 · Author has 90 answers and 80.6k answer views Originally Answered: Why do People naturally like watching violence? There are a number of psychoanalytical reasons. People like to watch explicit movies because of cathartic release, this is a theory that can be traced back to Aristotle. No one likes to feel uncomfortable, so it seems paradoxical that people will pay to watch movies that make them feel uncomfortable. But explicit movies do just that. People go to horror movies so they can feel emotional purging and release. This is especially true in the 21st century where we can't engage in sporadic physical action to release the pent up emotion. Research has shown that watching a movie or playing video games activates similar religions in your brain to when you are experiencing violent situations in real life. Video games are sort of like electronic drugs(and have been banned and called exactly that by the Chinese government). But it is not all bad because violent video games are able to give you the adrenaline rush to be able break from the stagnanting monotony that can be modern living. A study surveying American adolescents concluded that there were 4 main motivations behind watching hooor movies. These are: Gore watching – characterized by low empathy, high sensation seeking, and in males a strong identification with the killer. Thrill watching – high empathy and high sensation seeking – motivated by the suspense of the film and more identification with the victims. Independent Watching – high empathy for the victim with a high positive effect of overcoming fear. Problem Watching – high empathy for the victim but characterized by negative effect – sense of helplessness The Psychology of Scary Movies I don't associate horror movie watching with psychopathic behavior because usually the people I know who like horror are usually the same people who scream the loudest at these movies. Well perhaps it is because all the people that I know are classified in the problem watching category? |

Sometimes in life you have to laugh, yes death sucks and the many ways of death are astonishing but it shouldn't be taboo, we entered this world kicking and screaming and that's exactly how we leave it sometimes. Apart from that child getting run over which was kind of hard to watch, nothing was truly shocking, after all...this is reality!!! |
