On October 10th, 2004, the Army of the Ansar al-Sunnah executed a Turkish hostage and his Kurdish translator. An internet statement signed by al-Sunna said Maher Kemal, a Turk taken captive between Mosul and Baghdad was killed after saying he was a contractor who worked on American projects near Baghdad. Another statement said the beheaded Kurdish translator is Lukman Hussein, a member of Massoud Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party. As of September 30, 2008, 1,264 contractors have been killed in Iraq. |

Suzanne, regardless of what many people say, people do not die quickly. Considering that the brain cells begin to die after about three minutes without oxygen (regardless of blood loss), people are, and will continue to be, conscious during and well after a beheading, however quickly or slowly it may be. The reason why there is no way to convey the extreme pain is due to the severing of the esophogus.

From what I understand, the rapid drop in blood pressure in your head would cause you to lose consciousness very rapidly. Also, these guys don't seem very in to what they're doing. Kind of just going through the motions. Usually they're cheering and all happy and shit. |

from all of the reading i've done, you have anywhere from 10 to 25 seconds of consciousness once the blood leaves your brain.
