Coimbatore: Man beaten to death near police station, dozens watch

The images captured by a surveillance camera on Mettupalayam Road near Sai Baba Colony helped police solve a murder case

Coimbatore: In broad daylight, at a traffic intersection on a busy Coimbatore road, four men hit a man with a two-wheeler, threw him to the ground and then repeatedly kicked him and struck him with stones, smashing his head. He died.
The traffic lights were red and scores of people on two-wheelers and other vehicles stood by and watched. Then, when the lights turned green, those in a hurry even drove away. No one came forward to help.
All this right next to a police station. So close, in fact, that a police Close Circuit TV (CCTV) camera captured the entire incident.
Coimbatore police say they reached the spot within four minutes and took the victim, identified as a painter, Santosh, to hospital. But he was declared brought dead.
The incident was the result of a drunken brawl that began in a bar, the police said. The four men, a group of friends, then followed Santosh out and attacked him. They were arrested within 45 minutes based on the CCTV footage, the police said.
Santosh's wife, Saroja is disconsolate. "People don't have a conscience. They could have saved my husband. They and the government should answer for this," she said.

too bad the news program had to cut in every few seconds with that red screen and run their mouth.

they must have gotten some good hits and kicks to kill him that fast.

is it any wonder that no one helped?if you see five guys beating on one are you going to take them on? you don't know if they are armed or not. even if there were two men in a vehicle witnessing the assault, they are still outnumbered and they still don't know if the men are armed.

being so close to the police station, how could anyone be certain if the men hitting and kicking weren't undercover police trying to arrest a criminal. don't say that is not how police arrest someone. in foreign countries it might be and sometimes it is. even in the US sometimes police arrest in that manner even though they aren't suppose to.

if the whole thing came down as quick as the video would have you believe, no one would have been able to get into the police station, report it to the police and have the police come out in time to have saved the guys life. besides, if you want a cop, you need to go to a... how far away was the nearest donut show from the crime scene?

Ok, I'll try to explain what happened but still couln'd find out why are they so pissed off at him.

The first attacker has already called via cell phone three of his friends, they are coming on board some scooters.

At this point they are already 2 Vs. one, ans two more are coming


The second and the third one were so drunk that rider couldn't even brake in time.
