Bandits Killed Three People in a Bus on the Highway
This afternoon bandits killed three people and kidnapping several others at bus on a Nigerian highway. The 45 kilometres long road was described as the “safest” road in the entire State as virtually all other routes remain unsafe due to activities of bandits. Eyewitness accounts said that the hoodlums attacked a state government-owned commercial coaster bus at about 1.30 pm, killing the driver and a conductor on the spot and abducted the passengers along with those in four other vehicles into the surrounding bush. According to one of the sources, the gunmen had operated at a nearby village where they rustled some animals before going to the highway. Some of the villagers had alerted security forces on check-points along the road but non responded. There are well over 20 security check-points on the short route as it links Niger Republic, with rampart smuggling activities. |

Seems like a tough route still. Its crazy how the bus driver had no chance since they bandits had already planned to kill him as soon as they got there. people needs more concealed weapons for self defense, especially in an area like that one

Re: Bandits Killed Three People in a Bus on the Highway
Those security checkpoints are fuck all to do with security. Manning those points is highly coveted as the "security" are only interested in shaking drivers down for bribes to escape concocted motoring violations. Before setting off, a savvy motorist makes sure they've got smaller currency denominations so they're not too out of pocket. As many checkpoints as are encountered, there'll be a fine to pay. Attempts to object and insist on your rights means being detained at length until one sees the errors of one's ways. Which in and of itself is as good as a death sentence at the hands of highway bandits who own the motorways after dusk. Or getting kidnapped. Not that either operate exclusively in the dark. Such is the impunity with which they terrorise. I do not miss that country. |
