Something like this not being reported on has less to do with the media trying to influence the public and more to do with the real dangers of reporting on suicides. There are some serious rules when it comes to suicide and the media.

People dying publicly and violently is usually reported.

Only when it's a crime. When someone kills themselves just because....meh, not worth the airtime, and it actually preserves the privacy of the dead person's family, allows them to grieve in peace.
