Australian Gang Member Was Gunned Down in Vietnamese Restaurant
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam A 24-year-old senior member of Sydney’s Coconut Cartel, Lorenzo Laemalu, was shot dead in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Laemalu was reportedly one of several senior Coconut Cartel figures who had fled Australia and were directing the gang’s operations from Southeast Asia. A second cartel member is believed to have been wounded in the same attack. Police are investigating whether the killing is linked to the ongoing violent feud between the Coconut Cartel and the Alameddine crime family, a long-running conflict over control of Sydney’s underworld, particularly the illicit drug trade. The Coconut Cartel, along with other defected former allies, declared war on the Alameddine network earlier in 2026 and has carried out multiple attacks against them. Vietnamese police have identified two suspects (pictured), who took a taxi to a supermarket in Tây Ninh - around 100km away and near the Cambodian border - before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing on foot: Trong Minh Do Lang Kenny, Vietnamese-Australian, 33 Justin John White, Australian, 39 |
