Russia, A 53 year old Audi driver, who was speeding, was detained. The teenager was on a crosswalk and died after impact.

Police officers who arrived at the scene conducted an inspection and took measures aimed at establishing the identity and location of the driver.

As it turned out, after driving about 500 meters more, he turned into the yard and abandoned the car. Within an hour, the police, including using video from external surveillance cameras, identified the driver - he turned out to be a local 53-year-old resident.

He was discovered and taken to the police station from his home to give an explanation.

The man was transferred to the Investigative Directorate of the Russian Federation for the Kirov Region, where a criminal case was initiated against him.

My situational awareness evolves day by day after browsing DR. I never understood why people don't watch left, right and again left when crossing the street. Especially when there is a car speeding you should hear it. Or did that ewok use those annoying white airpods and isolated himself from the surroundings?

I agree, but I give this pedestrian the benefit of the doubt, partially: the Audi was cresting a hill that almost looks curved and is between trees on both sides, and to me it looks like the first time the ped would have seen the Audi was when it was right behind the SUV, and combined with the SUV’s position and the fact that most stock European cars are pretty quiet even at WOT at peak output… they had all the chance they could get.

But yeah, check both directions the whole way across not just at the start.
