I also got the impression that he was "just taking it" because he was in shock which interfered with what we would think to be the appropriate response to being attacked. Also, it doesn't really make any difference but I thought that he was on a bunk as well but after watching it a couple times and pausing at certain frames I realized that he is actually sitting on a concrete floor and someone is holding a mattress up right behind him probably to block the view and to keep him restrained.
