It what looks to be a small snub nose .22 revolver. The ammo? Noting special / or shitty. And as for the head flying backwards that more common with shotgun or large caliber rifle. The round probably got stuck with in his skull somewhere. Not enough energy to go through facial structure and brain.

He simply got scared, and made a mistake. Yes, I have had a big sharp blade to my own throat(an ex, you understand), but would I do it? No. But when someone comes up to me, physically not respecting my demands, well...accidents happen, people.

He basically wanted to make his point without getting to the point of offing himself. I used to do it to, when I was married. "You want to be dramatic and bullshit? I'll SHOW you dramatic and bullshit!" This is one of those times where...some force took him over and pulled his trigger. I don't think he wanted to die, really, but he wanted to make his point. Well, he did. And he should learn. Yes, go big or go home. I learned, he can too. Dammit.
