Argentine Couple Run Over by Train, Ended Up Wedged Between Train and Platform

A couple died on the morning of last Saturday after being struck by a Tren Roca train at a pedestrian crossing at Lomas de Zamora station.

Although initial official reports suggested a suspected double suicide, authorities are investigating a hypothesis based on witness accounts, which indicate that the woman may have thrown herself in front of the train, while the man was struck while attempting to rescue her.

According to the news agency "Noticias Argentinas", street vendors and commuters waiting on the platform stated that the young couple was arguing just meters away from the tracks. "Apparently, the young woman threw herself [onto the tracks], and her boyfriend immediately reached out to grab her, resulting in both of them ending up beneath the train," a source linked to the case told local media.
