Re: Another Video from The Bataclan

Cultural arrogance won't change anyone's mind on where they stand on the issue of gun laws, I don't care whose side you're on. Make informed decisions and scrutinize media sensationalism before talking about shit you really have no clue about. Being an asshole about it one way or the other doesn't change anything. The laws of the sovereign state will still be there in the end no matter what anyone says. I used to argue about this topic until I realized how much time I was wasting accomplishing absolutely nothing from it. Folks, can we just be respectful of each other's culture and leave it at that? Just saying.

Re: Another Video from The Bataclan

All i reckon is that people goin to a rock show probably shouldn't carry a gun or worry about weather someone else has one..... these guys shot their way into the venue... and the bombs at the soccer match were detained at the entrance because they were stopped by a man with muslim beliefs from wot i've been told. One of the best fun gigs I've been to was the Eodm.... so glad they weren't targeted. Love and Peace for all....

Re: Another Video from The Bataclan

New Zealand, the country where guns are banned but the crime rates are HIGHER compared to the U.S.

From property crimes to assaults, batteries, home invasions, theft, sexual crimes and so forth, these crimes are higher in NZ than in the U.S.

Murder is higher in the US than NZ, but then again, the U.S. has a much larger population. But, b/c of this, the U.S. should also have a larger crime rate in other categories as well, but it doesn't. NZ has higher rates with the exception of murder.

So while you have a higher chance of being shot in the US, you have a greater chance of being assaulted, battered, raped, robbed, car-jacked, home burglarized, etc., etc. in NZ.

Compare the crime statistics in NZ to those of the US and you'll find this true.

Another fact is that in general terms, the US crime rate as been DECLINING over the years. In certain cities, like Chicago, Detroit, NYC, etc., crime hasn't changed or even increased; but these cities have passed local ordinances to prevent legal gun-ownership!! However, these few cities saw nothing but a spike in criminal activity; while the rest of the country enjoyed a decline in crime.

During these same years of an overall decrease in crime, more and more cities and states relaxed their gun-laws and allowed more **law-abiding** people to legally carry. Opponents said relaxing gun-laws would increase crime, but it didn't, as we see in the overall decline in crime in the U.S. over many, many years (with the exceptions of cities like Detroit and elsewhere with city gun-bans that I already covered).

So, if NZ is "civilized" with it's higher rates of robbery, theft, assault, battery, rape, vandalism, etc., etc. etc., then I don't want to be civil.

Also...why are you concerned with U.S. laws since you don't even live there? You don't live there, thus, you don't have a say in the laws. I don't live in NZ, so would you like me dictating YOUR laws?
What a bunch of FUCKING bullshit.

Here are the stats here!

Nice job making everything up.

Re: Another Video from The Bataclan

Uh.....what am I missing?

Some interesting statistics (numbers from Wikipedia): New Zealand has a land area of 103,738 square miles and a population of 4,228,000. Compare that to the US's area of 3,718,695 square miles and population of 302,394,000... bit of a difference! Interestingly, the state of Oregon has an area of 98,466 square miles and population of 3,421,399 - both only a little smaller than the entire NZ.

I also did another comparison image, this time with Greater Auckland (NZ's largest city, actually a metro area made up of four cities) superimposed on Greater Portland (a medium-sized US metro area, Oregon's largest city). The size difference wasn't all that great this time, unsurprisingly; both Auckland and Portland have similar population sizes. In numbers, Auckland has a size of 419 square miles and population of 1,329,900, while Portland covers about 600 square miles with about 2 million people. Both have constraints on growth, too: Auckland has two harbors limiting growth, and Portland has very firm urban growth boundaries.

Portland with Auckland superimposed

What does all this mean? Nothing profound. The US is big. NZ is small. NZ is about the same size as Oregon.

Re: Another Video from The Bataclan

Ignorance is bliss. Comparing statistics of gun related deaths in a country with guns to one without. Does that make you feel better? The killings still happen, just with knives, crowbars, or anything else they can get their hands on.

People fear what they don't understand, and a lot of people here know nothing about guns except the fake stuff you watch in movies and on television.

I've been shooting real guns since I was 9 years old. I've only killed, lemme count, ZERO people.
On the other hand, I accidentally shot and wounded... NO ONE, EVER.
It's our second Amendment right in America, so I guess if you don't like it, you can geeetttt oouuuttt.

For real, you should try not hating something you have no idea, no clue, and no experience with. For well over 99% of people, their gun is for self defense.

Guns stop wrongful violence. Of course good people with guns didn't do anything at Columbine and other school shootings. THOSE ARE GUN FREE ZONES. Mass murders and other criminals don't follow the rules from the start.
