Re: American Man Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Whilst Making Salad on Livestream
Fully agree with other comments emphasizing that prompt response is key, even as civilians. Take free/cheap classes, get regular (at least yearly) checkups, especially if older and the like. Most importantly, bury any unnecessary beefs and tell your loved ones you care. Take that silly photo and video every now and again. None of us knows when our last day will be. My heart breaks for his parents.

Re: American Man Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Whilst Making Salad on Livestream
A “check up” will do nothing to prevent a heart attack. You don’t need a doctor to tell you how to live a healthy lifestyle. In fact, most doctors these days know nothing about truly living a healthy lifestyle. Diet and nutrition is not even really taught in medical school and doctors receive practically zero training in diet and nutrition post-graduation. Even those fancy Harvard-trained doctors. As you said, this was years in the making. There’s a reason heart disease is the number one killer in America. Years of being obese. Years of being sedentary. Years of diabetes. Years of hypertension. Years of hypercholesterolemia. Years of eating ultra processed foods. Years of destroying your body. Nearly all heart disease is preventable. |

`A “check up” will do nothing to prevent a heart attack` Brother please refrain from sharing such wisdom that can harm others if you have zero information about the subject. A “check up” will detect that you have a potential problem in your heart which will tell doctors to conduct further specialized tests to identify the problem, which will save your life. Also a healthy life style sometimes mean nothing, sometimes its just genetics, my 35 year old friend whos working out every day with almost zero body fat had his artery blocked at 95% and doctors caught it while checking something else, in a year he would be another statistic. |

Re: American Man Suffers Fatal Heart Attack Whilst Making Salad on Livestream
Brother, you have absolutely no idea about the experience I have. Trust me. I probably have more experience than most on this forum when it comes to this subject. Unless you’re going in and having a cardiac catheterization, you are getting very little benefit from a “checkup“. Primary care physicians will listen to your heart and lungs, maybe your carotid arteries if they’re a little more thorough. However, auscultation of those areas is likely to yield very, very little medical information. It could even include a skin check. However, even dermatologist (the skin experts) have been known to miss skin cancer. However, we are not talking about skin cancer. We are talking about things that will kill you dead in an instant because of a lifetime of poor health choices (i.e. heart attacks and strokes.) Your family history might guide some further testing. But, again, for the average Joe who goes in for an annual “check up“ you are gaining very little medical benefit. You can easily check your blood pressure at home. In fact, checking your blood pressure at home is far better than having it done in a medical office. You can order labs online and then go to a local laboratory and have them drawn. They are the exact same labs that a physician would order. You could go and get a coronary artery calcium score scan, but even those are prone to error and could tell you that you have clear arteries when, in fact, you are clogged to high heck. As one who works in the medical system, I can assure you that the medical system offers very little when it comes to prevention of chronic diseases. Modern day medicine is aimed at managing chronic conditions and does very poorly at preventing them. Invest your time in living a healthy lifestyle and eating real food all the while staying very active and exercising regularly. Don’t smoke. Avoid alcohol. Get adequate sleep. There’s much more that I could go into and would be happy to DM you some additional information. Obviously this wouldn’t be considered medical advice, but I assure you it’s going to be more than you would get from any primary care physician, especially those that have been practicing for more than 15-20 years or so as they are quite useless when it comes to preventive medicine. |
