But to keep it on topic, I've asked myself several times how the hell this woman was able to survive the attack long enough to end up conscious in this state (no doubt she expired soon thereafter), and after a little online refresher course in human physiology, apparently you don’t pass out because an injury looks horrific. You pass out when your brain stops getting enough blood.

Even with massive tissue loss, someone can stay conscious if the biggest arteries weren’t instantly destroyed and blood pressure hasn’t crashed yet. The body will temporarily clamp down vessels and spike heart rate to keep the brain perfused.

She was awake because circulation hadn’t fully collapsed yet. Once blood loss overwhelms that compensation, that’s when blackout happens.

It's still impressive that she was able to last so long at her age. She must have been a tough old bird.

Of course they almost all come from low-income neighborhoods, most of which are predominantly of the uneducated redneck variety, although Indy has its fair share of folks from the proverbial "hood" as well which is around 30% of the population.

I live in LA, and the prime pit owner demographic here consists of young, social justice warrior type women who think they can “love” the killer instinct out of these dogs by putting them in pajamas and treating them like human children. Which is arguably more disturbing than the ghetto tough guy owners, particularly because if the dog decides to attack an innocent bystander there is a zero percent chance of the owner being able to mitigate the damage.

One of my favorite YouTube videos that I used to circulate in social media arguments featuring the "it's not the breed" sycophants (many of whom were of the blue haired variety you described) featured a former pit owner who was an upper class white lady talking about two of them she had raised from pups that jumped a fence together and "inexplicably" ripped a toddler from its mother's arms and mauled it to death.

The amount of comments talking about what the baby may have done to egg them on made me sicker than anything I've read on here.

So, while oftentimes the owners' demographic and education level doesn't help... it's still the fucking breed.
