Aftermath-Bomb Blast in Imphal, Manipur, India
Imphal is in the state of Manipur which is in the far north east of India. In November of 2011, just days before India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s scheduled visit to Imphal, the city was rocked with a powerful bomb blast which killed one person and wounded four others. The bomb exploded near a crowded market, very close to the city’s new convention centre that was to be inaugurated during the scheduled visit from the Prime Minister. The IED was rigged to a rickshaw and mortally wounded its operator. The police quickly interrogated the wounded rickshaw puller, identified only as Kora, who told them that he was asked by a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party to deliver a package. The puller was paid Rs 20 upfront for the delivery. |
