Re: Afftermath of a Horrific Accident After the Sinking of a Boat

I think that what most of us don't seem to realise, is that hardly anyone outside of the first world highly industrialised nations can swim. Living in the Netherlands, a country with a lot of lakes, canals and rivers, this is a common phenomena for me. For Dutch children it is pretty much obligatory to follow swimming classes during their school years, which is subsidised by the government and municipalities. To the Dutch, swimming (and ice skating) is like second nature. During the summer when the weather is hot, many Dutch people go to the beaches, including some foreign immigrants. Seeing all the Dutch people swimming without any effort makes it look easy to these immigrants (who can't even swim), so they think they can do it as well, and they drown. And with many Eastern-European immigrants there's alcohol coming into the equation as well, which increases the casualty rate even more.

So I'm not really that much amazed by the fact that these Eastern-Europeans drowned in a shallow, calm lake, just 200 meters off of the beach.

The water conditions are awesome.Very clean water and almost no waves. They should have been able to swim to shore, if they knew how to swim. Looks like a nice place to scuba dive!

Yes, because swimming is strictly for people living in "industrialised" countries.

Living in the Netherlands, a country with a lot of lakes, canals and rivers, this is a common phenomena for me.
Lakes, canals and rivers exist outside of Netherlands too. Believe it or not, even in eastern Europe.

And with many Eastern-European immigrants there's alcohol coming into the equation as well, which increases the casualty rate even more.
So every eastern European person is drunk 24 hours a day, seven days a week? Is that an official statistic?

So I'm not really that much amazed by the fact that these Eastern-Europeans drowned in a shallow, calm lake, just 200 meters off of the beach.
The lake is not shallow, the water is clear thus giving the impression of shallowness. That is very obvious to any person that has a brain and has ever been near a lake and other bodies of water.

15 people drowned, 53 survived according to that article, so that's roughly 25% of non-swimmers on that boat.
If you look at most statistics, you will see that around 53% of ALL the people IN THE WORLD are non-swimmers.

Should i say "i'm not surprised that this many Dutch people died in a plane crash, they should've learned how to fly"? I didn't think so, moron.
