Re: 50 Vehicle Pileup in Fort Worth

Unfortunately, not quite. Texas roads are designed to protect drivers from the number one weather threat, which is flash flooding. The freeways are designed with grooves and in shapes that gets water off the roads. This means that Texas freeways are especially vulnerable to black ice, as any moisture in the road, in sub-freezing temperatures, can create multi-mile long stretches of invisible ice.

Vehicles in the area are also not designed for additional traction in icy conditions. Essentially you’re subject to gravitational forces in icy conditions here. You can’t slow down. Even if you hit the brakes way in advance you will continue to accelerate with momentum and gravity until you regain traction or hit something in front of you. You’re taught to counter steer and accelerate to regain traction, but in a situation where the entire road is blocked like this, brakes or slowing will do nothing. You’re basically on a luge.
This is exactly correct.

That fedex truck crashing was insane. Literally use to have nightmares of me dying in a car crash all the time. One of my fears in life.

Yes. The numbers kept changing throughout the day. The final tally was 133.

In the first video, right after the GO2 truck smashes every thing to bits, you’ll see a guy get up from the pavement. Where the fuck did he come from? I’ve watched that vid a hundred times and still can’t figure it out. [IMG][/IMG]

Holy friggn hell man!! That dude appears to get over the barrier right before the truck hits. Now I wonder if he was in the vehicle the truck hit and saw that it was about to go really bad for him?

No idea. I want to say it’s the guy from the white truck. Only thing I know in regard to white truck guy is that he survived and was out helping other drivers. First responders couldn’t figure out why the truck was empty at first, eventually they found the guy who said he belonged to it and were apparently surprised to find he didn’t need medical attention. People were commenting on how well the truck must have been made that he survived.

That said, I never saw anyone get out of that vehicle and it almost looked like whoever it was stood up from the other side of the barrier. Maybe he wasn’t in the accident at all and just ducked down when he saw the GO2 truck coming. It’s a damn mystery for sure. I didn’t see him until after you pointed him out, and I couldn’t find the source either.

That’s all I can guess. I know from another source the person in the white pickup truck survived. Though, you don’t see the door open or shut on the footage. The only way I imagine he could have survived is if he was out before the GO2 truck hit.
