On Thursday afternoon there was a serious accident caused by the collapse of a suspension bridge in Colombia, at the precise moment when a car was passing. According to the initial report, due to the emergency, at least five people have died, three at the scene of the events and two more while being transferred to medical centers.

According to the Administrative Department of the Disaster Prevention, Attention and Recovery System (Dapard), there are also reports of several injured people. However, authorities are awaiting further details of what happened.

For their part, the inhabitants of the area denounced the state abandonment and the poor condition of the only bridge that connected the region. They also alleged on social media that after the accident, the authorities were slow to arrive at the scene.

The director of Risk Management assured that the overweight of the vehicle is the first hypothesis of the accident. He insisted that the bridge was only for the transit of people and livestock, but drivers used it to shorten distances, despite the fact that there is a road.

"This is not a vehicular bridge, it is for pedestrian use and for pack animals. It has been built for more than 40 years. Due to the conditions and the width, the vehicles passed. What they did is they lowered the passengers to reduce the load and only the vehicle passed with the driver.
