5 Female Vendors Killed when Truck with Popped Tyre Ploughs into Street Market
Five women have been killed and three others seriously injured after a truck hit a market on the side of the road in a central province of Vietnam, authorities said on Saturday (June 13). The accident occurred at around 6.10am (2310 GMT Friday) when the truck travelling on national highway 14 through Dak R'La commune in the Dak Mil district of Dak Nong province suddenly crashed in to the right side of another truck going in the same direction, Vietnam Traffic Police said in a statement. The truck then hit eight people standing on the right side of the road, the police statement said. Three women were killed instantly at the scene and two others died in hospital. The three survivors are in a critical condition. Tran Van Thuong, chairman of Dak Mil district, said the victims were all women vendors at the market aged between 43 and 60. Police detained the driver and took blood samples to test for drugs and alcohol. "The main area of the market is inside, but many people take advantage of the front houses to trade, so they gather on side of the highway," he said. A preliminary investigation by the traffic police revealed the truck lost control after having a flat tyre.  |
