Dozens of rounds were fired during a deadly shootout on Monday morning that began when officers were executing a search warrant related to a 2021 homicide investigation.

19-year-old I. T. W. was shot and killed during the incident around 5 a.m. Police say he is not the homicide suspect and that the homicide suspect was not in the building at the time, though they say they were inside the correct apartment.

Two officers were shot by him, who authorities say, fired first.

The victim is said to have fired 18 rounds. Police fired 23 rounds total during the incident.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the officers yelled "police department, search warrant” multiple times when they broke a window and "and used loud distracts" to announce themselves. SWAT officers entered the apartment through the front door.

The victim was laying on a couch next to the front door when SWAT Officer K. K., 50, entered the building first and was shot multiple times by him, according to authorities.

K.K. fired one round before falling to the ground, police say.

SWAT Sgt. R. B., 46, and officers R., 39, and C, 36, each exchanged gunfire with the victim until he was hit and stopped firing his weapon, according to police.

C. reportedly fired 13 rounds, R. fired 3, B. fired 3, G. fired 3 and K.K fired 1.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

K.K. was brought to University Medical Center Trauma where he has since been receiving aid, according to LVMPD. He has been with the department since 2008.

C. sustained an injury to his left arm, was transported to UMC Trauma and released a few hours later. He has been employed with the LVMPD since 2009.

This is the second officer-involved showing for the department this year and the second deadly officer-involved shooting.

In a previous report, four officers were identified as having been involved in the shooting. At the time, it was not known if K.K. fired his weapon.

The shooting remains under investigation. Police say an examination of this incident is being conducted by the LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team. This review focuses on policy, tactics, and training as it relates to this use of force.

Mmm, there's always the possibility maybe he was listening to headphones or had noise-cancelling headphones in (the ones from Bose are extremely good at making loud sounds seem like they're coming from the next house over). Then you see some random dude break your door down and you instantly go for the gun under your pillow. Course, if you're gonna shoot at cops for whatever reason, they are perfectly within their right to take you down.
