What a great scene of beauty. Everyone wants in only to look, cry and head back out the door. She looks a little like a swinger with a fan. |

Why not just bash the door open with the table? And even so, there was so much bickering and commotion that it took them 3 times longer to break that window and get through it. ...Not that any of this even mattered - she was already dead |

Re: 3rd Year Nepali Girl Prakriti Lamsal Hanging Sucide at KIIT University, India
Prakriti Lamsal, 20, a BTech student from Nepal studying at KIIT in Bhubaneswar, ended her life in hostel after enduring relentless harassment and blackmail by her ex-boyfriend Advik Srivastava. She had filed a complaint against him at least twice at KIIT International Relations Office, but no action was taken. The university administration failed to refer the case to its Prevention of Sexual Harassment cell, dismissively labeling the abuse as "mental harassment" rather than sexual harassment. Instead of punishing Srivastava severely, the IRO merely made both students sign a mutual agreement to stay away from each other and suspended him for a single week. Following her suicide, when students protested, KIIT attempted to suppress the case, and its officials mistreated Nepali students. KIIT even issued an order directing all Nepali students to vacate the campus immediately. Following Lamsal's death, Srivastava attempted to flee the region. He was subsequently tracked down and arrested by the Cuttack police under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for abetment of suicide. If convicted, this charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. The police seized Lamsal's mobile phone and laptop. They also recovered a widely circulated audio clip featuring Srivastava verbally abusing and harassing her, which was submitted as critical electronic evidence. The Odisha state government and the National Commission for Women launched formal investigations into KIIT's handling of the situation. Students demanded immediate termination and legal action against university officials who failed to act on Lamsal's prior complaints. In direct response to the unrest, KIIT terminated two management/security staff members (Manjusha Pandey and Jayanti Nath) for making offensive, racially insensitive remarks about Nepalese students. A senior administrative officer from the International Relations Office and 2 senior hostel officials were also placed under immediate suspension. A Commision concluded that the university's internal governance and gross mishandling of sexual harassment complaints directly contributed to the student's death, stating that KIIT's actions "amounted to criminal liability". KIIT was found to have completely bypassed established UGC guidelines for student safety, mental health protection, and the handling of harassment for international students. The Commision recommended criminal proceedings against senior university administrators and the specific members of the ICC who handled the case. They also advised strict academic sanctions, including freezing KIIT’s campus expansion plans and ordering a comprehensive academic audit. The state police have proceeded with the trial of Advik Srivastava under close observation from both the Odisha State Government and the National Human Rights Commission. The legal proceedings have faced some delays due to parallel counter-petitions filed by the KIIT university management in the Odisha High Court attempting to challenge the initial human rights inquiries, however, the criminal prosecution against Srivastava for his direct role in the abetment remains active. A definitive trial calendar or next hearing date has not been made public due to ongoing legal complexities. · |

Poor girl. This kind of harassment should be punished severely. They should hang the guilty parties in public so they can get a taste of their own medicine on their way to see Shiva or whatever diety they choose to suck off. ![]() |

Re: 3rd Year Nepali Girl Prakriti Lamsal Hanging Sucide at KIIT University, India
Don't worry ladies: she can hang in there, 'til you can break in... Good job for surfacing all that ingrained SOP stuff/lack of response seriousness AFTER she killed herself, and she can't be the only one approaching or at that point... It feels like most schools and other such institutions (worldwide, not just here) can be presumed to be failing women in this way at minimum, except where consistently proving that they're not. |
