As much as I hate hearing it repeated over and over as the next non-Muslim, you may like to know it's a bit more universal of a term than just "god is great". I have Muslim friends and in-laws, and "allah Akbar" is more akin to the English "Oh God" / "Oh my God" in terms of shock/surprise/sadness, but also doubles as the usual "praise the lord" among other things.

I've read that the term "Allahu Akbar" is being used by the terrorists as "Our God (Allah) is greater than you and your God"... That sounds closer to what that narcissistic bunch would say rather than "God is great", or "Oh my god"...
