300Mph Crash

NHRA driver Scott Kalitta was killed in a fiery car crash when his Funny Car burst into flames after his engine exploded during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in New Jersey. (Original Info)

(Wiki)
On June 21, 2008, Kalitta was fatally injured during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Kalitta's funny car was traveling at about 300 mph when the engine exploded into flames near the finish line. The parachutes were damaged and failed to slow the vehicle. Kalitta's vehicle went through a sand trap at the end of the track and hit a concrete-filled post that supported a safety net. He was transported to the Old Bridge Division of Raritan Bay Medical Center and was pronounced dead on arrival.

46-year-old Kalitta had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and 1 in Funny Car. He is the son of NHRA legend Connie Kalitta, and the cousin of Scott Kalitta, a Top Fuel driver.

Kalitta’s name is often misspelled as Scott Coletta or Scott Kaleta.

No Jokes about the series being called the "Funny Car series"

Re: 300Mph Crash

When this first happened I made a number of comments on youtube... It seems that fans of the sport didn't find this nearly as funny as I did
