3 Female Tourists and Male Lifeguard Drowned in Sea at Dat Lanh Resort, Vietnam

Regarding the case of 4 people drowning when bathing in Binh Thuan, on August 10, the representative of the Department of Health in Binh Thuan province said that the unit is directing Ga Li Town General Hospital to actively treat 6 people.

Before that, at 18:30 on the same day, rescuers brought 10 people to Hospital. However, four victims died, including a lifeguard.

The identity of 4 victims died: B.L.T. (born in 1996, Lam Dong's native), N. T. N. (born in 1996, a native of Lam Dong), D. T. T. L. (born in 1996, lives in Di An, Binh Duong ) and N. M. T. (born in 1963, residing in Ham Tan, Binh Thu, and is a local rescuer). All three female victims were part of a tourist group organized by a company in Binh Duong to travel to La Gi.

Six people are being treated in emergency at the hospital, including: Nguyen Van An (born in 1983, Hai Duong village), Tran Anh Dai (born in 1994, from Cai Be, Tien Giang), Nguyen Thi Tam (born in 1996, native Thang Binh Quang Nam), Nguyen Thi Thuy Hoa (1996, Dong Ha, Quang Tri) Le Thi Minh Thu (born in 1987, Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City), Truong Minh (1987, Tan Tien commune, La Gi town, Binh Thuan).

At 21:00 on the same day, rescuers are still actively searching for 2 missing people: Mai Huu Thoai (born in 1993), Ho Duy Phuong (born in 1992, in Tam Ky, Quang Nam).

Earlier around 17:00 on the same day, a group of tourists at Dat Lanh resort (Tan Tien commune, La Gi town, Binh Thuan) went to the beach to have fun and swim.

During a rainshower, many tourists were swept away by the waves.

Receiving the news, rescue forces were present to rescue. However, due to strong sea waves, the rescue was difficult.

After that, rescuers brought 9 people ashore but 4 people were killed, including the lifeguard.

Re: 3 Female Tourists and Male Lifeguard Drowned in Sea at Dat Lanh Resort, Vietnam

How awful!! They're off for a holiday swim and then suddenly a rainstorm comes in, and the sea pulls them in...?
Ahhh 'WHAT?'

So, a rainstorm somehow managed to change the sea currents?

I very much doubt that these people drowning had anything to do with the rainfall.

They werent good swimmers and the annual tidal 'pull' wasn't clearly signposted on this beach. No warning signs.

That 'over the shoulder juggling' was interesting to watch again though. Quite obviously there was noone present who had any idea of basic life support.

I am interested in this 2nd/3rd world 'over the shoulder jiggling technique' though.

I've seen it done with a 'run around in many circles' kind of thing... and I have seen it actually work a few times..

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation does work better though.

(Just sayin')

Re: 3 Female Tourists and Male Lifeguard Drowned in Sea at Dat Lanh Resort, Vietnam

The bouncy ride compression technique is not of third world origin. It, or something like it, used to be common in Europe and the USA prior to the invention of CPR. Where horses were readily available, they would put a drowning victim face down across the saddle and have the horse go into a trot (with someone keeping the victim from falling off). The idea is to alternately compress the diaphragm with the horse's rhythm. With no horses available, the over the shoulder ride was attempted. Another method was to roll drowning sailors over a barrel.

That little kid sure had an interesting day at the beach.

The bouncy ride compression technique
It's called the Eve method which was invented by Dr. Frank C. Eve. It also lets escape remaining water out of the lungs.

To try to save a drowned cat, you do something similiar. You grab it by its back feet and let you arm circle a few times before giving it air/cpr.

The problem is Asians mostly do not swim. Few classes, and few opportunities.

Look at those waves ... here in California, those waves are what we would throw our three year olds into to make them learn to swim! Pussy waves! All I can say is those victims were out in the water and had no clue how to swim or bob or tread water or any other simple ways to save themselves.

Re: 3 Female Tourists and Male Lifeguard Drowned in Sea at Dat Lanh Resort, Vietnam

Bunch of idiots. The main thing drowning victims need are breaths. When the lungs are full of water then they’re not making oxygen. Without oxygen, the brain is dying. Chest compressions don’t expel water. Breaths will.

You’ll see decent lifeguards giving repeated breaths as soon as they can, even still in the water. Not just two at a time either. They’re more important than chest compressions, which are designed to keep oxygen flowing. No point if there’s fuck all oxygen in the body.
