27 Bus Passengers Burnt Beyond Recognition After 2 Buses Crashed
The Police has confirmed that 29 passengers including a Police officer lost their lives in the early hours of Monday through a fatal accident at a location near Dawadawa, a farming community in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Bono East Region, Ghana. The accident occurred around 04.20 hours. The gory accident resulted from a head-on collision of two commercial vehicles, a Yutong Grand Bird bus and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus, which caught fire, burning 27 passengers beyond recognition. The Grand Bird bus with 12 passengers on board was loaded with green pepper and tomatoes from Bawku in the Upper East Region towards Kumasi, while the Sprinter bus from Kumasi to Tamale had 23 passengers which included the Police Officer. He explained that the driver of the Grand Bird Bus veered off his lane and consequently collided with the Sprinter bus. Chief Inspector Oppong said six out of the 12 passengers on board the Grand Bird survived and were conveyed to the Municipal Government Hospital for treatment, whereas the deceased have also been kept at the Hospital’s morgue for identification and autopsy. Six survivors who were also sent to the Municipal Government Hospital, have been treated and discharged. A source close to the Hospital said only two out of the 29 who died in the crash have been identified so far and that it would be difficult to identify the rest. A passenger told: “Our vehicle veered off its lane and ran into the lane of the oncoming Sprinter Benz bus. We were about 12 passengers on the bus; six of us escaped the deadly accident but one of the brothers who is a policeman died.” According to him, there were 3 males and 3 females (one pregnant) who survived the accident and also said that the bus was loaded with green pepper, garden eggs and some carrots. “I got out before realizing that my other brother who was a policeman had been trapped in the vehicle and burnt to death among the others. My cash of GH¢25,000 which I was going to use in buying some goods has also been burnt. “Immediately after the crash, the fire started but I used my leg to push the glass covering the window and five others followed me out but the rest could not come out,” he added. The police have already blamed the accident on careless and inconsiderate driving on the part of the driver of the Grand Bird bus. Police told said investigations were showing that there was petrol on a motorbike and some in a container on board of one of the vehicles that crashed. He said the two cars were using diesel and suspected that had it not been the petrol on board, there would not have been an immediate fire after the crash. |

Re: 27 Bus Passengers Burnt Beyond Recognition After 2 Buses Crashed
Terrifying. I hope those who died were dead instantaneously. I hope the survivor who lost his brother in the fire, only spoke about the amount of money he lost, was said with out really thinking about it. Because wtf you talking about money when dozens of people have just died all around you! |
