Re: 25 Year Old Soccer Player Dying During a Match
The autopsy later revealed that what killed him was Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD), an inherited heart disease caused by genetic defects of the parts of heart muscle known as desmosomes, which are composed of several proteins that can have harmful mutations. Three doctors have been charged with culpable homicide for failing to use a defribillator: both teams' doctors and the one who was in charge of coordinating the medical staff and medical services, as it was estabilished that the use of a defribillator would have increased his chances to survive. The trial will begin Feb. 20, 2014. |
