I know a couple of engineers. They say it's not a matter of if you're going to hit someone, it's a matter of when. That does not make it easier for the engineer. I live 2 houses from a busy railroad line (4 tracks). Kids walk to the high school on the tracks because it's quicker. I wasn't here for 2 months before a kid got hit right at the end of my block. Had his headphones on, ignored an engineer coming in the opposite direction to get off the track. Thank God that guy called the oncoming train so it was able to slow down. The boy didn't die, but he's messed up because of the brain damage he sustained.
