Re: 2 Workers Killed in Construction Accident in Queens NY

From what I've read. I think they're saying the cable used to support the load that secures it. Not the crane cable itself. But that's why I'm not an engineer, cuz I'm having a hard time explaining what I mean lol

Re: 2 Workers Killed in Construction Accident in Queens NY

The cable wasn't strong enough? Who the hell decided that?

The whole crane should be load rated to safely lift a known maximum. Any site that uses cranes HAS to have trained and certified personnel to rig the load, drive the crane, plan the loads etc.

Saying the cable wasn't strong enough is so far out of the ball park it is almost funny. It has to be FOUR times stronger than the heaviest load it is allowed to lift.

Believe me, somebody is going to be charged with man slaughter here!!!
I would think it's cable wear, damaged with lack of inspection, they will check if it's been routinely maintained and replaced

Your tech info is good, but whether or not anybody is ever charged with anything will depend on how well connected, politically, they are. This is Queens (near where I used to work).

If you look at 0300Infantry's post of pics, you can see that the crane cable and shackles are intact. Whoever connected the beam is probably the person who made the mistake. It doesn't appear the crane failed in any way. Maybe the cable on the beam was not connected properly. It sure did whack the crane right on the cab.

Wow, super rare find, shocked someone actually calmly took video. Big difference in reaction than some of the South American or Asian vid's!

Re: 2 Workers Killed in Construction Accident in Queens NY

From what I've gathered so far, the dude was on the I beam, and stepped on the tether, it became unbalanced and he fell with the beam to his death.

I'm not a welder nor work in this industry but that's what they're saying
