Re: 2 Workers Electrocuted After Moving Scaffold Hits 11kv Power Line
The family was REALLY hoping he would come home, as a SYMPHONY Conductor. Guess their dreams are ended. Or should I say.............Up in smoke...? |

Re: 2 Workers Electrocuted After Moving Scaffold Hits 11kv Power Line
It depends upon what point in the phase cycle you get shocked that determines whether you get 'stuck' or not. If you are in the unlucky part of that cycle, it will cause muscle contraction. The two guys pushing the scaffold had their hands in the worst position for this accident to happen. And about AC/DC.... yes DC is much safer and also delivers a smoother flow of current (better for industrial machinery to prevent vibration and power fluctuations) but it loses far too much energy (as heat) when being transmitted down power lines. The electric supply network would therefore still have to be AC, and equipment installed on every street or in every house to convert it to DC. For many household appliances AC is also better so you'd need to convert the current back again. Which is getting a bit silly and complicated. |
