The country has turned into another communist mafia state, with a lot of help from Cuba. It's really tragic, three quarters of the population is below the poverty line, go hungry, the rest that don't are part of or connected to the political elite. The fear, hostility, humiliation, and desperation the average citizen endures daily is breaking down the population's morale, and things like this is an expression of that helplessness, and frustration. It's a shame. It's a beautiful country with a lot of potential, and then this ideology got its hooks into it. It might be decades before they get back to where they were, if ever.
