I always look left & right even when I have the right of way at an intersection, one early morning in 1987 I was going to die just like this.
It was about 2 a.m. I was driving downtown in my city of origin and there were no cars anywhere to be seen, it was like driving in a ghost town, I had to turn left on the next crossing but the light was red, and as I approached the crossing, the light turned green so I didn't have the need to stop, just slow down and turn left, but I decided to stop at the crossing and turn to my left first, as I did, a medium size pick-up truck went past in front of me from left to right like a blur, at a speed I guessed to be well over 90 MPH, if I had only slowed down and turn left I wouldn't be writing this.
I had a programming job that I always checked out between 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. and was used to see how almost no one obeyed a red light at that time in the morning, so it was my routine to slow down on green lights and watch both ways before crossing. Lots of things have changed since 1987 which I would have missed if I did not have followed my routine that morning. Cheers!
