2 Members of a "sleeper Cell" Killed by Dagestan Security Forces

Two guerrillas from the militant group formed in Derbent, Dagestan whose plans included the organization of a terrorist attack during the May holidays, were killed by security forces officers in the Derbent district of Dagestan.

Two armed members of the group were found in a forest near the village of Chinar in the Derbent district. When asked to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities, they opened fire with automatic weapons, the National Counterterrorism Committee’s (NAK) information center reported.

“As a result of a short exchange of fire, both criminals were neutralized,” the report said.

According to the NAK, they were “adherents of one of the international terrorist organizations and were preparing to commit a terrorist attack during the May holidays.”

At the site of the shoot-out, a one-time grenade launcher Mukha, submachine gun, grenade, cartridges, medicines and equipment, as well as a passport of one of the militants were found.

The names of the victims have not yet been disclosed, the investigators continue to work on their identification.

The security forces suffered no losses. Today at 15:00, the regime of emergency situations that was in effect from the middle of the last Saturday in Derbent and Derbent district was stopped.
