Holy shit that was awesome when the flammable-carrying tanker went over the rail! Unfortunately, that huge fire didn't do much to help melt the ice. Either way, it acted like God's road flare to give everyone else a heads up... so at least they knew they were fucked as they slid into the inferno.

This happened near where I live and I wanted to get a full report before I posted anything about it.

Apparently two people died, 15 were taken to the hospital and 55 cars vehicles crashed/pilled up on that highway.

Why did the trucks keep going down the road / near the flames? They look like they were going slowly and would have had plenty of time to stop. Looks like you could see that shit for miles away, why didn't they pull over out of caution?

I don't know, but 80,000lbs takes a long way to stop on black ice. Apparently it takes more than those drivers budgeted here.

At least two people were killed after a fuel tanker veered off a Baltimore highway and exploded early Saturday, according to reports.

The skidding of the tanker resulted in a pileup of more than 50 vehicles, local authorities said.

The crash on Interstate 95 near Eastern Avenue was blamed on icy conditions in the city. Freezing rain accumulated into an icy sheet on roads resulting in slippery streets.

Twenty-three people were taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Victims of the pileup sustained head trauma and broken bones, as well as lacerations, cuts and scrapes, the report added citing hospital officials.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh offered condolences to people affected.
