Does anyone have any details about what the reason behind cold-blooded attack/murder was please x

Looks like the guy maybe could have tried running but he really didn't notice them until very late and perhaps he knew he was a slow runner anyhow x R.I.P x
I think he noticed, also noticed they were carrying planks. I think he could have tried to run, the 2 murderers looked slow, on with a limp.
But maybe he thought he could reason with these 2 over the alleged issue.
