15 Foreign Oil Workers Killed when 2 Buses Collided Head-on in Kuwait
Seven of the 15 oil workers who were killed in the head-on collision between two buses in Kuwait on Sunday were from India. The other victims were 5 Egyptians and 3 Pakistanis, an official from the state-owned Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) said. Two other Indians and a Kuwaiti were also injured in the accident. Land and air ambulances were dispatched to the site of the collision near Burgan oil field while fire rescue teams from Kabd, Wafra, backup and KOC fire stations rushed to the scene. Efforts to rescue four workers who had been trapped inside one of the buses failed to save them, a security source told. The victims, employed by Burgan Drilling, a private subcontractor for KOC, were reportedly returning home at the end of their shift. KOC said it would investigate circumstances of the deadly accident. The Emir, Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, sent cables of condolences to the families of victims and thanked policemen, firemen, Kuwait Oil Company and Ministry of Health for their response and efforts. Crown Prince Shaikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah also offered their condolences to the families. |
