Odds are it was the speeder who died.  The poor vic was frozen with indecision. Focusing on the physics, the vic was going slow enough to veer left, pass speeder to the left, then snap it back onto original course avoiding head-on with the car. But it is hard for people to buck their pass-on-right road mindset. The speeder should have straightened out and exited the road rather than head-on an innocent rider. |

Could be what the race drivers call target fixation. I am afraid I would have not reacted quickly enough either. Enzo Ferrari used to drive like a bat out of Hell on regular roads at high speed all the time flying thru hazardous situations. His philosophy was that there is always somewhere to go to avoid collisions. His wife did not approve when she was in his car IIRC. I think it was Enzo, but maybe I got it mixed up and it was Nuvolari or another driver. Anyway, perhaps we should all have more of that driving philosophy, not the speeding but the practice to avoid disasters with quick maneuvering. I am going to take my car out the next big snow and practice... |

Why on earth would that guy think it’s okay to pass on the outside of a blind curve??  He deserved it for being stupid, but the other guy, and his mom too… At least she may survive, but after learning that she lost her son… she may not want to survive him.  |
