I do not know the circumstances that happened this horrific accident, but the victim (a boy) ended with a pair of scissors embedded in the left part of the face. Despite the terrible and terrifying scene of the accident, the doctors managed to save his life, and fortunately had a happy ending. The face was left with an impression, that with proper treatment and over time can be relaxed.

A four-year-old boy is recovering after accidentally falling over and impaling his face on a pair of scissors.

Xiao Yu was helping his parents cut sticky tape for fixing Chinese festival scrolls to the door of the family home in Qinglong, Qinghuangdao. But he slipped and, to the horror of his mother and father, landed on a large pair of scissors.

Both blades narrowly missed his left and eye and entered his face next to his nose, penetrating seven centimetres into his head.

After ten hours of being transferred from hospital to hospital, Xiao was finally admitted to Xiehe hospital in Beijing where he was treated by specialists.

Doctors found the blades had pierced through the boy's upper jaw and were pointing to the inside of his skull at a dangerous angle.

After a group discussion they decided to remove the scissors surgically. Dr Zhao Jizhi and his team cut an opening inside Xiao's mouth to make the blades visible, and then surgically removed the scissors before sewing up the wounds.

Following eight days of recovery, the swelling has gone down and no facial nerve damage or infections were found.

Amazingly, Xiao can already smile again.
