Re: Worms Nest
Behcet disease = Behçet disease = Behcet syndrome Behcet syndrome is a small vessel vasculitis PLUS medium vessel vasculitis. Triad- relapsing uveitis, oral ulceration of the apthous type, ulceration of genital area. Rue - due to immune complex vasculitis involving small vessels Etiology is unknown, but can be seen after viral infections. this disease is often seen in Turkey, Iran, Japan and Korea gastrointestinal manifestations and pulmonary manifestations can be seen ruptured vascular aneurysms are the cause of death... if disease is left to progress with age, which is associated with severe neurologic involvement... On top of all that good stuff, every single cold, flu, and every single time the patient gets sick WE HAVE TO WORRY. when certain microorganisms are implicated with the sickness, the patient can develop autoimmunity because there is a strong association with HLA-B51 haplotypes and will(can) become cross-reactive to patient's own tissues a week or two after a cold. Helper T cells (TH17 cells) play a significant role by contributing to the recruitment of neutrophils, which are seen infiltrating the blood vessel walls. However, the findings are nonspecific and the diagnosis requires an appropriate clinical story. Immunosuppression with steroids or TNF-antagonist therapies are generally effective. |
