World War 1 Facial Injuries

As a history buff, I thought I'd post some WW1 pics of facial injuries.

Re: World War 1 Facial Injuries

Thanks...not sure what caused these injuries. The last two look like the result of horrible burns, either from being too close to a blast or perhaps being caught in a flame thrower which was used in WW1. If you've ever seen the movie "The Lost Battalion" they show a good example of that. The problem with them was that the soldier using it would carry a big tank of fuel on his back and needless to say, if it was ruptured, he'd have a big problem.

Re: World War 1 Facial Injuries

From what I've found, the last guy was severely burned but the info I found didn't say how, and that a doctor experimenting with plastic surgery/skin grafting techniques worked on him. He said later that he learned from it because he found he'd done "too much, too soon." The fact that this is what he looked like AFTER treatment really makes me cringe to think of what he looked like before.
