It's not from lack of blood, but the type of injury. It's called a traumatic avulsion when the tissues are crushed or damaged in such a manner that it actually cuts off the flow of blood to the wound. When blood vessels are drawn to the snapping point they shrink and retract triggering rapid clotting. If she had her leg cleanly cut off she probably would have hemorrhaged to death within a couple of minutes without a tourniquet.

Hm... If this is injury from a tire, I ponder the origin of the possible gore on the little thing sticking out mid-bottom screen, early on. As my paramedic brother in law likes to say, "All bleeding stops eventually." |
