Woman Has a Cockroach Removed from Between Her Two Eyes
An Indian maid who woke up in the middle of the night with a burning feeling in her head has had a live cockroach removed from between her two eyes. Selvi, 42, felt a "crawling sensation" while half asleep and tried to brush away the culprit, but it was too late. An insect had burrowed inside her right nostril and was nesting between her eyes, close to the brain. Selvi, a domestic worker living in Injambakkam, went to the nearest clinic on Tuesday night but the doctor said it was merely a skin growth. But Selvi knew better.  "I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect. There was a tingling, crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes." She made her way to the nearby Government Stanley Medical College Hospital the next day. Head of the ENT department Dr M N Shankar said it was the first case like it "I have seen in my three decades of practice". The doctors at Stanley Medical College Hosptial were shocked when they went in to investigate the discomfort. "It was sitting in the skull base, between the two eyes, close to the brain. If left inside, it would have died before long and the patient would have developed infection which would have spread to the brain," Dr Shankar said. It was removed using clamps and a sucker, all while being filmed. The cockroach took 45 minutes to extract. |
