Woman Had Giant Hernia Growing in Her Abdomen for 20 Years
A woman from Moscow lived with a giant hernia in her abdomen because she was afraid to see doctors. The woman went to a Moscow hospital complaining of a significant increase in abdominal size, pain, and bleeding. It turned out that she had had a hernia growing in her abdomen for 20 years. Over the last five years, it had grown significantly and caused serious discomfort. Her abdomen was asymmetrical in shape and had grown considerably, placing a heavy load on her spine. The Muscovite did not seek medical help because she was afraid of surgery. Surgeons performed a minimally invasive laparoscopic hernioplasty with abdominal wall repair, removing the hernia and reducing the abdomen. The sac contained more than 50% of the small intestine loops, part of the transverse colon, and almost the entire greater omentum. The condition was life-threatening, but thanks to Moscow medical technology and the professionalism of the doctors, the surgery was successful and lasted only an hour and a half. After the surgery, the back pain subsided, but the patient will need to wear a bandage for recovery. The woman has now been discharged with important recommendations on weight control and nutrition to prevent recurrence. |
