thanks. this is actually from Dec. He already can walk, even play basketball as before. and there is almost no visable scar.

Man! guess all this modern day medicine really has changed things. he had the surgey done at Duke Raleigh Hospital and i dont even know how many hours they put in... Sorry to hear about your condition..... They put the images on the docs website too since theyd never done anything like it before... this is the site:

That's really neat! I read the surgeon's article and he seems to have used a different technique, and it only took just over 3 hours! Mine took 6 hours, and they used a single rod looped down over the top of the spine, and used donor cartilage to fuse the rod to my spine. I'm so glad your friend was given a new lease on life, all the best of luck to him!
