Re: Wild Boar Attacks *CHILD & ANIMAL WARNING*
Aren’t there populations of actual Boar in the U.S., due to importing for hunting? Most “wild pigs” are just escaped and reverted domestics.

Re: Wild Boar Attacks *CHILD & ANIMAL WARNING*
I lived a good chunk of my life in Florida, & hunting wild pigs is very popular. They looked a g[d deal like the animal in the crap photoshopped in OP's post. Almost exclusively hunted with dogs, which always made me cringe. They weren't as big as domestic pigs but were still quite dangerous. And tasty.

Re: Wild Boar Attacks *CHILD & ANIMAL WARNING*
American newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst brought a population of European boar to California and let them loose to build up hunting stock. The boar mixed in with the feral pigs that were already here. So today the California wild boar population contains European boar stock along with the feral pig. Its all mixed together. We call them all "wild boar", which is a bit redundant since all boars are wild.

Russian Boar are a threat all over the South from Texas to Florida. Texas just passed a law that taking Russian Boar or Ferrell pig no longer requires a general hunting license. |

Re: Wild Boar Attacks *CHILD & ANIMAL WARNING*
Boars are a problem here in the US south east. Originally brought in as domesticated pigs by the Spaniards in the 1600-1700s. However in the early 1900s Eurasian wild boar was introduced as a hunting game animal to mainly South eastern US states. Over the years, they became hybrid boars which can reach ridiculous sizes. They are called trophy boar, as it is the kind you want to mount. I'm in Georgia, and have shot several. I've always hunted them to eat, even the one trophy boar below. The boar shown below was 350lbs with 3" tusks. I did an 80yard brod side lung shot with an AR15 SBR, (77gr Buffalo Boar Ammo) and it did not drop. Instead it charged my direction sounding like a horse galloping as I fired another 10-15rounds. Following a blood trail in the thick brush as it was getting dark was a bit nerve wrecking as you can imagine. Provided fantastic meat for the next 2years though. Boar tacos, Boar topped Pizza, Baked Boar, BBQ Boar, Crock pot Boar etc... ![]() |
