When I was going to cosmetology school we had a lady that told us how dreads were "done". She told us that sections of hair were teased (or as I call it "tangled") with combs and then rolled in our palms to form the dreads. Not to wash the hair but you could wet it down. That is why you have to shave your head if you want them out because it is so tangled and damaged. I hate it to be honest. It just looks bad and dirty to me. Like your too lazy or too busy to waste your time turning on a faucet to take a shower.
