I've seen/heard of this before. I also understand there is a weird sexual fetish regarding amputees.
I met someone who has that fetish. Very strange, but he made some nice artwork on it

Some people do things like this to themselves because of "body dysmorphic disorder".
Ive watched a show or two related to this, and read some info on DR about it. Would not be surprised if he did it because he didn't feel that they were supposed to be there. 1 guy on some show said he would drive for hours at a time with his arm hanging out his window hoping someone would broadside him and take his arm off because it wasn't "meant to be" or something like that.
