A man, identified as T.Ş., poured fuel from a petrol can he had with him over himself and then set himself on fire. The flames quickly engulfed him, with a local shopkeeper extinguishing the flames around forty seconds later.

T. was taken to a local hospital, before being transferred to Adana, over an hour away, for more advanced care.

According to reports, T., who had previously received treatment for balance and coordination problems, made a living by cleaning vehicle windows in the district centre. However, local police officers told him off for doing so. The allegations claimed the "anger and psychological distress" he experienced led him to pour petrol over himself and set himself alight.
